The 120 highly trained professionals who comprise the Longwood Symphony Orchestra represent 17 New England hospitals, four Massachusetts medical schools, and 12 graduate schools. Drawn from a variety of medical and non-medical disciplines, these musicians are committed to serving the Boston community through music.

Daniela S. Krause, M.D., Ph.D., flute

Dr. Krause is a fellow in transfusion medicine and a leukaemia researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital. She works in particular on the improvement of cellular therapy, such as haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, for the leukaemias and is currently investigating the role of the bone marrow microenvironment in leukemia. She received her medical degree from the Free University Berlin and did her internship in haemotology/oncology at the Charite in Berlin. She came to the US in 2000 in order to do basic research on leukaemias and lymphomas. Dr. Krause began playing the recorder at age 3 and switched to the flute and piccolo at age 10. She has played in many orchestras in Berlin, England, and Boston and is an active chamber musician in a variety of ensembles.
