Following the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010, the LSO partnered with Boston arts and health organizations to present a benefit concert entitled Symphonic Relief for Haiti. To continue these efforts, the LSO and Partners In Health present Symphonic Relief for Haiti II, a concert to raise much-needed funds to complete the construction of the Center for Excellence in Rehabilitation and Education in Mirebalais, Haiti. Once complete, CERE will become the first fully accessible rehabilitation facility within Haiti’s public health system, and will provide care to patients who have lost mobility through disease, accidents, or natural disasters.
Music Director Ronald Feldman leads a string orchestra that includes four violinists with ties to Haiti, arts, and rehabilitation. Venezuelan clarinetist Jorge Montilla will perform the Boston premiere of Concertino for Clarinet and Strings by Haitian-American composer-conductor Julio Racine, founder of the Haiti Philharmonic Orchestra.
